Billy Lindon

Experienced Product Marketing specialist, Web designer, Shopify partner, and SEO practitioner based in Torbay, Devon.

I’ve been marketing products and building commercial websites since the mid-1990s. That experience shows up in how I approach client work: structure over decoration, evidence over assumptions, and commercial outcomes over vanity metrics.

I help small and medium-sized businesses build websites that answer customer questions, rank for the searches that matter, and convert traffic into enquiries or sales - whether that’s a complex Shopify store or a basic Squarespace brochure site.

Why experience matters

Most web designers learn the platform. I learned the underlying principles before the platforms existed.

That means I understand what will scale, what will break, and what isn’t worth the effort - not because I’ve read about it, but because I’ve built it, maintained it, and fixed it when it went wrong.

Clients value the judgement and the honesty. I tell them what they need to hear to get results, not what they'd like to hear to feel good.

Where the technical foundation came from

I began my career as a systems analyst at Thorn/EMI, moved into technical training across Europe for WallData, and later spent several years at Nokia bringing live back-end data to early mobile devices — before smartphones were mainstream.

At Nokia, I held roles including Engineering Operations Manager for EMEA, Technology Manager, and Global Head of Product Marketing. Despite senior responsibilities, I continued coding throughout, because hands-on work is the only way to stay grounded in how systems behave in practice.

Microsoft invited me to speak at their 1998 Tech-Ed conference on relational database design. Nokia later asked me to assemble a team to pioneer mobile data integration for devices such as the Web-enabled 7110 (the Matrix phone).

How that translates to client work today

That background shapes how I approach modern web projects.

I don’t treat websites as design exercises or marketing slogans. I treat them as systems. Focusing on how information is structured, how users move through pages, how platforms behave under pressure, and how technical decisions affect performance, ranking, and conversion.

I recommend Squarespace for brochure sites because clients can maintain them confidently. I recommend Shopify for eCommerce because it handles the mechanics reliably. SEO work is focused on intent-led searches where small businesses can realistically compete.

The aim isn’t to impress you with what I know. It’s to get your site working effectively.

Let's Work Together

If you’re planning a new website, need an existing one brought up to a professional standard, or want an honest assessment of what’s holding your current site back, I’m happy to talk it through.
