Overview
Following our conversation and your request for a comprehensive store audit, this proposal outlines the key areas where we can modernise FreshAir Junkie's Shopify store to improve customer experience, maintain your strong 5% conversion rate, and ensure optimal performance across all channels.
Your store is performing well, but the outdated theme (Impulse v2 from 2018, currently 6 major versions behind) and several structural issues are holding back potential growth. This proposal addresses both the technical foundation and the optimisation opportunities that will position FreshAir Junkie for continued success.
Technical Foundation
Theme update & modernisation
Investment: £480
Your store is currently running Impulse v2 (2018), whilst the latest version is v8 (2025). Being 6 major versions behind means you're missing modern features, performance improvements, security updates, and potential compatibility issues with newer apps.
What we'll do:
- Migrate your theme from v2 to v8
- Preserve your existing styling and big imagery approach
- Test all 18 installed apps for compatibility
- Comprehensive testing across desktop, mobile, and tablet
- Verify checkout flow and payment processing
- Maintain your filtering functionality
This provides a modern foundation for all subsequent optimisations and ensures your store remains compatible with future Shopify updates.
Legal Compliance & SEO
Business address implementation
Investment: £60
Your registered business address does not appear anywhere on the site - not in the footer, contact page, terms & conditions, or returns policy.
Legal issue: Required under Companies Act 2006 and E-commerce Regulations 2002.
SEO issue: Google treats missing business addresses as a scam site signal, which suppresses rankings. With 78.5% of your traffic landing directly on product pages (likely from Google Shopping), this is critical for maintaining search visibility.
We'll implement your business details consistently across footer, contact page, terms & conditions, returns policy, and privacy policy.
Returns policy rewrite
Investment: £120
Your returns policy has two critical problems:
1. Legal compliance issues:
- £3.95 processing fee conflicts with UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 - customers are entitled to full refunds including standard delivery for statutory returns
- "Unworn or unused" requirement is stricter than the law permits - customers can handle and try items as they would in-store
2. Customer perception problem: A recent Trustpilot review states: "As others have noted the wording of his returns policy makes very clear his level of disdain for his customers. If I had read that before I think I would have steered well clear."
We'll completely rewrite your returns policy to ensure full legal compliance whilst adopting a customer-friendly tone that builds trust rather than creating friction. The policy will protect your interests without conveying hostility toward customers.
Delivery information page rewrite
Investment: £90
Your delivery information page shares the same hostile tone as your returns policy, including phrases like "if you are the sort of person who is not in to receive items, and moans when the parcel is with a neighbour, please do not shop with us."
Legal issues: Deducting £3.35 from refunds for customer addressing errors may not be enforceable under Consumer Contracts Regulations.
Missing information: Your competitive same-day dispatch promise (orders before 1:30pm) isn't mentioned, whilst the free shipping benefit is buried in weight tables rather than highlighted.
Formatting issues: Multiple instances of all-caps shouting ("WE DO NOT DELIVER TO PARCEL LOCKERS") and aggressive asterisk emphasis create the same hostile impression as your returns policy.
We'll rewrite this page to clearly communicate delivery options, timescales, and your same-day dispatch promise in a professional, customer-friendly tone whilst ensuring legal compliance.
Collection Management & SEO
Collection audit & optimisation
Investment: £600
Your store has significant collection management issues that are damaging both user experience and SEO performance:
- Empty collections: Multiple collections with 0 products (e.g. Wallets & Belts, Men's Footwear, Handbags & Shoulder Bags, Women's Sunglasses)
- Thin collections: Many collections with only 1-2 products (e.g. Knives Multitools & Accessories with just 1 product)
- Navigation problems: Empty brand collections (e.g. ENO) appear in main "Brands" menu, creating poor user experience
- Missing descriptions: Most collections lack SEO-optimised descriptions, reducing search visibility
Impact: Empty and thin collections damage your search engine visibility because Google spends time indexing useless pages instead of your valuable product pages. They also create dead ends for customers who click through expecting to find products. Combined with missing descriptions that provide no context for search engines or customers, these issues make your site look poorly maintained and harder to find in search results.
What we'll do:
- Audit all collections across your catalogue
- Hide or delete empty collections
- Consolidate or hide thin collections (1-2 products)
- Write SEO-optimised descriptions for remaining active collections
- Clean up brand navigation to remove empty options
Conversion Optimisation
Dynamic dispatch promise
Investment: App subscription required (£7.99/month)
You offer same-day dispatch for orders before 1:30pm, but this competitive advantage isn't communicated on product pages where 78.5% of your traffic lands.
We'll implement our dynamic dispatch promise app that displays real-time shipping promises based on current time, accounts for weekends and bank holidays, and removes ambiguity about when orders will ship.
Implementation included at no charge. Ongoing app subscription is £7.99/month, billed through Shopify.
Free shipping trust badge
Investment: £60
You offer free 48hr tracked shipping, but this isn't mentioned on product pages where 78.5% of your traffic lands.
Why this matters: Shipping cost is one of the top reasons customers abandon purchases. When shoppers arrive on a product page (often from Google Shopping) and can't immediately see that shipping is free, many assume they'll face charges at checkout and click away to competitors.
We'll add clear free shipping messaging directly on product pages where purchase decisions are made, removing this common barrier and building immediate trust.
Badge styling improvements
Investment: £60
Your "Sold Out" and "Save £X" badges currently use the same cyan colour, making them visually identical at a glance.
Customer impact: When shoppers are quickly scanning products, they can't distinguish between unavailable items and discounted ones. This creates hesitation ("Wait, is this on sale or sold out?"), slows down decision-making, and causes customers to skip products they assume are unavailable when they're actually just discounted.
We'll implement distinct styling so "Sold Out" clearly signals unavailability (typically red or grey) whilst discount badges continue to promote value with eye-catching colours. This removes ambiguity and helps customers make faster purchase decisions.
Footer corrections
Investment: £30
Your footer states "Hours: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm EST" but you're a UK business operating in GMT/BST, and EST is US Eastern Time.
Customer impact: UK customers see operating hours in the wrong timezone and have to mentally convert times. International customers think you're a US business. Both groups may think you're "closed" when they visit outside these hours.
Search engine impact: Google sees your stated hours and may show your business as "closed" in search results during UK evenings and weekends, even though your online store operates 24/7.
We'll fix the timezone error and either clarify these as customer service hours for phone/email support, or remove them entirely since your online store accepts orders around the clock.
Broken product video audit & cleanup
Investment: £240 (Phase 1 - Audit & Report)
Some products display "This video is unavailable" error screens where embedded videos have been deleted or made private.
Customer impact: When shoppers land on a product page and see a broken video, it immediately damages trust. They question whether the product is still available, whether your business is still active, and whether they should trust you with their money. It's the digital equivalent of walking into a shop with broken fixtures - it suggests neglect and unprofessionalism.
Search engine impact: Google actively penalizes pages with broken content. When their crawlers detect error screens on your product pages, they view those pages as lower quality and push them down in search results. With 78.5% of your traffic landing directly on product pages, this directly costs you visibility and sales.
Phase 1 - Audit: We'll programmatically check all 2,257 products for video embeds, test each video URL, and provide a detailed report of products with broken videos.
Phase 2 - Cleanup: Based on the audit findings, we'll quote separately for removing broken video embeds from affected products.
This two-phase approach ensures you only pay for cleanup work that's actually needed.
Email & Review Optimisation
Judge.me review system optimisation
Investment: £180
Your review collection has two critical issues:
1. Domain verification missing: Review request emails are being sent from "requests+yourstore@judge.me" which triggers spam filters and looks unprofessional. This explains your limited review collection.
2. No product grouping: With few reviews per product, you're not leveraging Judge.me's product grouping feature to aggregate reviews across variants and similar products.
We'll configure DNS for domain verification so emails come from @freshairjunkie.co.uk, significantly improving deliverability. We'll also set up strategic product grouping to consolidate reviews where appropriate, increasing social proof across your catalogue.
Abandoned cart email optimisation
Investment: £180
Your abandoned cart recovery is underperforming. With 1,501 emails sent in the past year generating only 77 sessions (5.1% click-through), there are two problems:
- Sender address: "store+8689385508@m.shopifyemail.com" looks like spam and damages deliverability
- Email content: Generic messaging with no urgency or compelling reason to complete purchase
What we'll do:
- Configure custom sender domain so emails come from @freshairjunkie.co.uk
- Rewrite email copy with urgency, benefit reminders, and clear call-to-action
- Optimise timing for maximum recovery
- A/B test variations for continuous improvement
Industry standard abandoned cart click-through rates are 10-15%. Improving yours from 5.1% to even 10% would double recovered sessions.
Google Shopping Feed Optimisation
Feed quality improvements
Investment: £600
Your Shopping Feeder dashboard shows significant data quality issues that are hurting Google Shopping performance:
- 109 unmapped categories: Products not properly categorized for Google Shopping, reducing visibility
- 84 products with issues: Data quality problems including all-caps text in manufacturer/brand fields, missing required fields, and formatting inconsistencies
- Feed Health Score: 76: Good but not excellent, indicating room for improvement
Why this matters: With 78.5% of your traffic landing directly on product pages, Google Shopping is likely a major traffic driver. Feed issues reduce product visibility, hurt ad quality scores, and can prevent products from showing at all.
What we'll do:
- Map all 109 unmapped product categories to correct Google Shopping taxonomy
- Fix all 84 products with data quality issues (caps, formatting, missing fields)
- Improve overall feed health score for better Shopping performance
- Implement ongoing feed monitoring recommendations
Recommendations & Guidance
Social media audit
Investment: £30
You're linking to social accounts with significant but abandoned followings:
- Facebook: 1.2k followers, no posts since 2022
- Instagram: 1.4k followers, 1 post in 174 weeks
Linking to inactive accounts damages credibility. We'll provide recommendations on either reactivating these channels to leverage your 2.6k combined followers, or removing the links to avoid negative brand perception.
Professional email guidance
Investment: £30
Your contact email is freshairjunkie@hotmail.co.uk - a free consumer email service that undermines professional credibility for an e-commerce business.
We'll provide guidance on setting up a branded email address (e.g. info@freshairjunkie.co.uk or sales@freshairjunkie.co.uk) to improve trust and professionalism. Implementation is straightforward through your hosting provider or email service.
Ongoing Support (Optional)
Monthly retainer: £100/month via standing order
Most clients find ongoing support valuable for maintaining their store's performance as Shopify releases updates, apps require maintenance, or business needs evolve.
What's included:
- Shopify and app updates
- Minor content amendments (text changes, image updates, product additions)
- Technical troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Performance monitoring and optimisation tweaks
- Quick fixes and adjustments as your business requirements change
What's not included:
Major development work such as complete page redesigns, new feature development, or substantial structural changes. These can be quoted separately as required.
This retainer ensures your store remains technically sound and allows you to make changes without delays or per-incident charges. Support requests are handled on a reasonable-use basis - most clients find the monthly allocation more than sufficient for their ongoing needs.
